Ushaw College Seminary
« on: Sunday 05 March 17 15:03 GMT (UK) »
I have just received some photographs of Ushaw College - present day.
Why have these beautiful buildings been allowed to be abandoned, vandalised, and fallen into such decay.
Are or were they in the trust of Durham University?
Are they listed buildings?

Makes one heart-sore

Ushaw College isn't abandoned and in decay.
It is being looked after, and gradually re-opened up to the public. It is a wonderful building with, hopefully a great future.
I have been fortunate enough to visit it several times, most recently for a concert a few weeks ago.

Good to hear,  Many thanks.

Not sure when the pics I saw were taken, they were sent from Australia and the buildings appeared to be in a dreadful state.

My father was born in Crook and spent his early youth (until marriage) living in Ushaw Moor.  Last time I visited was 2000.

Delighted to hear all is well and cared for.

Thank you for replies
Regards

It's possible the photos you've seen are of the Ushaw College Home Farm, which isn't in a good way at all.
But I can assure you that the main college buildings are being well looked after and attracting more and more visitors. It is a gem of a place.

I think those photos are of the former 'junior' school buildings attached to the main college. They certainly are in a mess  :(
They are marked in blue here (scroll to bottom of the page.)

The main college buildings are the ones to the right.

Stan, yes some of those.

Aghadowey, quite a few of these were what came to me.
