Hi Ann Handyside
What I find odd, is that during the maintenance case hearing (Dec. 1913 - Jan. 1914) there is no mention of a child born of the union of William PERRIN and his first wife Agnes ?
Agnes PERRIN just turns up (unexpectedly) in
1893 (2 year after William's re-marriage) ... and then waltzes off with a sizeable amount of "hush money".

If her child was in her custody at that time, then why did Agnes not also make a claim for maintenance ?
I can't see a death in New Zealand for the child born in 1883.
There is a little further info published in the following late-January 1914 article >
http://paperspast.natlib.govt.nz/newspapers/NZH19140128.2.28 .... namely that William PERRIN had told new wife Ellen that
"his first wife had died in July 1883".
And ...
Ellen stated that before she wed, extensive enquiries in Australia re: Agnes PERRIN had been made, and that William PERRIN, her own father and herself, had been satisfied that first wife Agnes was dead.
* So why were enquiries being made (specifically) in Australia ?
* Why did Agnes PERRIN "come hunting" her husband after 9-10 years ? * And had she been living in Australia ?
