Help please

Hello,
I am researching for a friend who has limited details of his family. He is travelling from Australia to Scotland later this year and is hoping to find some of his family history.
His father was Frederick Ross b.29/11/1925 Scotland d. 28/9/1989 Australia.
His Grandfather was also Frederick Ross , married to Celina (or Selina) Kelly both born in Scotland.
The only other information he has is that his father emigrated to Australia with siblings -   Elizabeth, Jess, Lena and Andrew.
Where do I start?
I have tried to look up marriages in Scotland but couldn't locate him or his wife.
Any assistance would be appreciated.

               There is a marriage on Scotland's People for a Frederick L. Ross married to a Selina Kelly in 1915 ref. # 644/18200 in Pollockshields. I hope this helps.

Possible for Selina Kelly in 1901 census living with parents Andrew ( age 49, a Bricklayer) and Lizzie ( age 43) and a number of siblings at 18 Salisbury Street, Gorbals, Glasgow. This would match with a death record on Ancestry for Selina Kelly Ross wife of Frederick L Ross who died 1978 at Traralgon, Victoria and is buried with her husband Fred L at Hazelwood Victoria ( he died 1968). Her parents are recorded as Andrew Kelly and Elizabeth Fagan.
Frederick Snr and Selina travelled to Melbourne on the Cameronia arriving Fremantle on 1/11/1950. Their address in Scotland ( per U.K. Outgoing shipping record on Ancestry) was 42 Pennilee Terrace, Glasgow. They were going to c/o Miller 141 Princes Highway, Morwell, Melbourne.
Their son Frederick ( born 1925) appears to have travelled alone to Melbourne on the Empire Brent in late 1949. His address in Glasgow is also given as 42 Penilee Tce and he was a Millwright.

There is a 1954 Australian Electoral Register record (Ancestry) for Frederick Littlejohn Ross, a Butcher, living at 58 Phyllis Street, Morwell, Victoria. also listed at the same address is Selina Ross. Frederick Snr is recorded as a Butcher on the 1950 shipping record) An Andrew Kelly Ross is listed at 16 Phyllis Street ( possibly their son and a brother of Frederick jnr).
Frederick Littlejohn Ross was born in 1894 in Kinning Park, Glasgow ( birth certificate available to view on a Scotlandspeople). I believe he is probably the son of John A Ross and Janet ? And can be found with his parents and siblings on the 1901 census at 45 Pollock Street, Kinning Park. Ancestry have a probable ww1 army attestation for him. He joined the Dragoon guards in March 1914 ( previous occupation Butcher) at the age of 19 years and 245 days. Was discharged in Oct 1914 as medically unfit for service. Next of kin given as mother Janet and brothers John, William and Alfred.

You can look for existing people on Scotlandspeople costs credits to view the actual ref

If you know what region of Scotland it is I will look an ancestry ..My own  Ross connections were from Lanarkshire

I have tried to look up marriages in Scotland but couldn't locate him or his wife.

If you put in both names, the search won't find the marriage. Just use one or the other and it will appear. I'd go for her because her given name is unusual.

You won't be able to view his father's birth online because it is less than 100 years ago, but your friend should arrange to spend a day in the Scotland's People Centre in Edinburgh or in the Mitchell Library in Glasgow (book the ML in advance!) and he will be able to look at that and lots of other records for £15 for the day (unless they increase the fee between now and his visit of course).

Don't believe anything that comes from Ancestry or any other online place unless it is an image of an original document. Always check the original source!

You have all been very helpful.
It does seem that Frederick Littlejohn Ross is the man I am looking for.
I can now give this information to my friend and see where he wants to go from there.
 He will be in Edinburgh and Glasgow for several days, so, I think I will suggest a hunt through the archives.
If anyone can give me any more information to help him in his search, it would be deeply appreciated.

42 Penilee Terrace, Govan, Glasgow was still occupied by a Ross family from 1945 up to the year 1950 as follows....

    The 1948 record above says Frederick L.  SEA 274948 so what does it mean?     Was he perhaps a sailor, or in the Navy?       I have no idea what the letters beside the other Frederick Ross mean.

Thanks Doddsie4, that is the answer to another question.
My friend knew of an Aunt "Lena", now we know that her name was probably Selina, after her mother. It just makes it that more difficult tracing your family when you only ever heard of  them by their nicknames.

 I too have no clue as to the letters after Frederick Snr's name - another mystery!
