Sarah EDMONDS 1874 death
« on: Wednesday 22 February 17 17:00 GMT (UK) »
I am trying to find the death record of my ggrandmother Sarah EDMONDS/EDMUNDS who I believe died in childbirth in Feb/March 1874.   The birth certificate of the child she bore at that time gives an address of 115 South Street, Walworth in districts of St.Saviours, Surrey and St.Peter Walworth.   This child was subsequently reared by her mother's family in Birmingham and the father Thomas William Edmonds re-married in March 1875.   I have been unable to find any death record on Ancestry or on FreeBMD.   She is not the Sarah Ann Edmunds listed on FreeBMD in Woolwich (I have that death certificate)   If anyone can suggest where else I might search it would be much appreciated.  Thanks.

What was her date of birth?

There is a Sarah Edmunds died Jul-Aug-Sep quarter 1874 St Saviour Southwark but her age is given as 71. I wonder if that is a mistake on transcription? Might be worth checking the 1871 census to see if you can find that one.

Thanks for your reply.   Yes, I had seen that 71 year old.  'My' Sarah was 26 in the 1871 census and is shown living in St.James, Clerkenwell with husband and older children.   There don't appear to be any Sarah Edmunds born 1803 in Birmingham (which mine was) in the 1871 census.   I have now also searched the GRO index for an 1874 death and have found a Sarah EDWARDS aged 28 who died at that time so am considering sending for that certificate to see if other details match.

There is a Sarah M Edwards living in St Saviours, Surrey in the 1871 census - RG10; Piece: 595; Folio: 25; Page: 47  daughter of Joseph and Louisa. So unless you can find her after that, that death could be her and not your Sarah Edmonds.

Aah, thanks for that.   I think I might have to think it out again or give the GRO further details if and when I order the certificate.
