Medical Records
« on: Friday 17 February 17 17:14 GMT (UK) »
Hi

I was wondering if anyone has any information on obtaining medical records, I ony have a death certificate for my grandad which has the registration district, but do you need to have to know any other information such as  doctors name or surgery name?

Sounds negative & I've never tried myself but there may be a 100 yr rule for disclosure even to direct descendants. Even then you may not be able to see them yourself as the page(s) may have information relating to other people.

I would say, have a punt and see what you get. The worst they could say is they have none.

I used to work for a council's Central Records, which also stored some NHS records. There were tons from years past the destruction date as we didn't have the staff or budget to destroy them. Some authorities have memorandums on not destroying any historical files, even if they have a policy of destroying them. Yes, it was 1980's but you could be surprised.

I personally have a number of social care records about myself as a child which will not be officially destroyed until around 2103 (100 years after my 18th birthday).
