Why did he die here?

I have a James White, born 1821 in Wotton under Edge, Glos and lived in Bristol afterwards, who died 5 July 1901 according to Probate records, in Hedging, North Petherton. I am wondering why he died in Somerset? Was there a hospital in Hedging in 1901 or something like that? His deceased wife's family came from Somerset, maybe he was just visiting? I don't know where he was buried, Somerset or Bristol.

What is the closest church to Hedging please?

The probate does give his address as 487 Gloucester Road, Horfield.  Could he have been there for work (Grocers porter)

In 1881 and 189191 James was living in Goodhind St, Bristol,  with wife Isabella and children. Amelia was always with him. In 1901, Census must have been just before his death, he was living "On own means" with Amelia. Also in same house Charles Jennings and family.

I can't really imagine he was in Somerset for work. Possible though

Hedging was a very small hamlet. I searched without any names in 1901 & 1911 and there was a George Thomas Boone b1864 in Hedging still living there.

Hi Giggsy, Yes James was married to Isabella Boon from Beer Crocombe.

I have looked at the 1901 census and can find George T Boon but although he was born Hedging he appears to be living in Lyng. I don't know if this is close to Hedging or not.

I still cannot find a close connection to Isabella other than there are a lot of Boons in Somerset, so will be part of the family somehow. And, I still don't know whether James was buried in Somerset or Bristol.

Hedging is 7.7 miles from Beercrocombe.

There is a church in Beercrocombe and it may be worth contacting them re: a possible burial.
