Thank you for your help, I’m new to this so unsure how to reply to each post individually so forgive me in advance. I saw that she lived at st Joseph street thanks for the clarification regarding the address, as so the both it says she was born in India father born in Belfast. Jeannie mc kenzie from Belfast about the correct age appears on my late father in laws baptismal cert as his mother. He and his brother were put in an orphanage in Belfast, a few years apart and thought that maybe there was a connection. Without any records it’s left a huge gap in the family and I know that my late father in law always wondered what happened, he was a baby and his brother was a few years older. Again thank you all for your help.  :) my late father in law was called Brian born in 1933 and his brother was Desmond.

1912 Belfast directory shows John McKenzie at 82 Joseph St. (as 1911 census) and a James McKenzie at #80.

Hi I'm Anita Slavin From Belfast and my family moved to Antrim when I was 13 yrs old..My grandfather was Joseph Slavin..
If I can help or maybe be connected with his other family. He spent time in jail for bigamy.. so I know there's another family out there. My grandmother had 14 of his children..

Does anyone know if the Spence family referred to here have any connection with the Spence family of East Donegal who had left that area by 1908?

Do you mean William Edward Spence who married Isabella Hayes in 1919?

Yes indeed. The Spence family from East Donegal had all departed from there by 1908. I have traced them all—with exception of two of the brothers: Andrew & William. By a process of elimination I know one of these two went to the north-west of England. The Joseph Street William Spences were in Whitehaven, Cumbria at some stage before returning to Belfast. I know grandfather Spence from the Belfast family is, according to the census, from Co. Antrim; but I do have examples of people from pre-partition Ulster, denying connections to the south.

Can't see why they would have denied being born in Co. Donegal as it was in Ulster and Ireland was all one country. From it's geographic location Donegal was hardly 'south.'
