Hi, Is it possible to identify the name of a Ward of Court if the only information you have is the name and identity of the guardian? (And a photograph of the child with studio information of the reverse).

Hi,
Thank you for reading and replying to my post. The photographic studio is Alexander Bassano of Bond Street and Piccadilly which, according to Wikipedia, wasn't at Bond Street until 1877. The guardian was Thomas Clarke (1845-1904) Maltster of Derby. I attach both photographs, though I don't really know if this helps. It would be nice to put a name to person in the  photographs (which was the  original motivation for my research).

Can't help with your query but....what a cute boy & how well turned out he was.. . He doesn't look too unhappy with his lot.

There are several mentions of Thomas Clarke maltster in the Derby newspapers late 1800s, will look for any entry about guardianship. Also in censuses to see if a ward is living with him.

Did Thomas leave a will?

Frederica was married to Thomas Clarke (1845-1904), a corn factor and maltster from Derby.

I have had another look Thomas Clarke's will and there is no mention of a Ward.

Can't find anything other than family members with him on the census - nor any mention in the newspapers of a ward.

If they lived in Derby, strange the pictures were taken in London. I sent a message to the owner of the website mentioned, as he/she seemed to have some in depth knowledge of the family, asking if they knew of any guardianship responsibilities.
