Yes I saw that on one census but saw woodham Mortimer on the other. I'll double check in case I read it wrongly. I did check Maryland baptisms too but no sign there either.

Update: 1841 living in woodham Mortimer but obviously doesn't have birthplace. 1851 born in woodham Mortimer. 1861 born in Mayland.
Her sister Mary Ann (who married a Royce) consistently gives her place of birth as woodham Mortimer.

I did find abraham smith's marriage to Mary Ann rayner 16/7/1825. Both single.
Mary Ann rayner was baptised in Braintree to William (born c1776 and died 1844) and sarah on 1/1/1804 but her birth is noted as being 5/1/1801. She died fourth quarter of 1873.
Abraham smith born stisted but not found his baptism yet.

Abraham smith born 31st may 1801. Parents: William and Sarah smith.
Shame we can go backwards but not find the baptisms of his daughter and son-in-law!

Thank you for all your help so far. You have taken me back further than I have been before so am very grateful for that but just wish we could fill in the gaps in Frederick's early life.
