Alton Marriage look up please
« on: Tuesday 07 February 17 17:18 GMT (UK) »
Can someone look up the marriage of James Poor/Poore and Martha Coles in the parish records please?
They married 1841 in the Alton Registration district. I am pretty sure they would've actually married in Newton Valence.
I really want to know what marthas parents names were

If anyone could do this for me, it would be much appreciated
Thankyou

Hi

If asking for somebody to check the parish records - you need to provide the quarter in which the marriage took place to narrow down any search together with the name of the church in which it took place

Only fathers names are shown on English marriage certs - not both parents

These are all the areas within the Alton RD

The marriage is Dec qtr 1841.

Newton Valence looks a good call for the marriage given that they were both there (Martha as a 20 yr old servant in James's household) in 1841, and he, by now widowed, was still there in 1851.

She was born in county per 1841.

Unfortunately Marriage Locator at http://www.marriage-locator.co.uk/ cannot assist on the place of marriage.

I would like to know marthas fathers name because i don't know her parents. Can't seem to pinpoint her birth either.

As avm228 said, They were married Dec Qtr 1841.

Have you considered the baptism in Empshott, which is not that far away.

Martha daughter of William & Dinah Coles on 22 April 1821

I've not seen that in the baptism records. Could be. I'll look into it

Why did you think that they would not have married in Newton Valence when they lived at Noar Hill at the time?
20 Nov.1841  James Poor, widower, of full age, lab. of Noar Hill, son of Joseph, lab. married
Martha Coles, spinster of full age of Noar Hill, daughter of William, lab.
Witnesses - George Hewett, Harriet Coles.

You are probably aware of the strange shape of Newton Valence parish and Noar Hill? Yours Jane

Jane,

I think it was stated that Newton Valence was the most likely place.

Great to have it confirmed  :)
