Images not copied over from old to new laptop on PAF

Many  thanks Xinia , I think I'll have to take up your suggestion of sitting next to you ! I've tried every way I know to find the "image file" in the original PAF but nothing comes up.
Nothing for it I think but to create a saved file of all the missing images to install on the "new" copy on the new laptop.
Having done that, I think I must then put everything onto a new FH programme before anything else is lost !

David, why don't you just 'export' the gedcom file again from your original program, remembering to tick the box to include multi-media?
Transfer it to your new computer and then with the new program, 'import' the newly saved file.

Thanks Rosy, I've just tried that and no images despite ticking the relevant box . Either I'm dim or the original programme just won't export images any more.

This may explain it better: Link the multimedia files. If the GEDCOM's creator attached pictures, sound or video, you'll have an extra step: Copy the picture files to your computer and make sure the links in your new family file still point to the pictures. Suppose the sender kept the images on drive C in a folder called Genealogy Pictures within the My Pictures folder. The links should work if you keep the pictures in an identically named folder at the same location.

If you click on a link to a picture in PAF and it can't find the image, the program will prompt you to locate the file. Then it will ask if you want to change the paths to all the multimedia links in the file to the new path you specified. Answer "yes." As long as you kept all the images in the same folder, the links will be updated correctly.

Rosy and Xinia, I appreciate your efforts and although it may be comprehensible, the images links are just not opening although if I look in my picture files, the individual images are there.
I'm just resigned to re-doing it manually - unfortunately, Queensland is a long way for me to come for a 1 to 1 tutorial ! And the last time I was there, my wife and I got "bogged" in a creek south of Cook Town !

OK so you say you can see your images in a seperate folder....

copy that to the desk top.. create a new folder put in the PAF files and the actual paf that you are working on

call the folder with the pics in a specific name..

NOW as long as that folder is in the same folder as your working PAF  you should then be able to follow ringarosy instructions.
