Thanks for this.......I now obviously have the correct person and the right marriage.....looking in Scotland People I have the transcript from the parish record date 7th December 1845. However, there are no details of parents etc - purely just the details of the bride and groom.

I have checked the census from 1841 and can find 4 Williams in the correct age range. However, they are listed as living in Renfrew, Roxborough, Midlothian and Berwick. Previously I had assumed the record from Renfrew was the match - showing father as Ezekiel. However I have no concrete evidence that this is correct.

Does anyone know how I can confirm the parents of William considering the earliest census we can get is 1841 and marriages were not statutory until 1855.

When did he die?  If he died from 1855 onwards his parents names and mothers maiden name will be on his death cert

Sorry I don't have an age or date of death. Currently searching ScotlandPeople but cant narrow it down to the correct death.

Check the censuses for him to see which is the last he appears on - that will help narrow it down

He was still alive in 1881  1891

Thank you attached. Attached is the image of the death record. Looks like father is Alexander Forsyth (typical there is a white mark through the name) and mother looks like Margaret Forsyth (cant make out the maiden name).

The death was registered by William (son)

Have you checked FS for a possible parental marriage before 1823?  Christian name is clear and surname could possibly be Aitken or similar

1841 has an Alexander Forsyth 55 living with a Helen Aiken in St Ninians

You could also check SP Old Parish Registers for a marriage
