Keyboard - apologies as I think you have located that 71 census details before on another thread, and I hadnt noted it. So Mary had two daughters, Hannah & Martha, would love to know if either were Marks mother, and who with

Mark's birth certificate will give his Mother's name.

But as Martha and Lettice die, that leaves Hannah as a contender.

So two daughters, Lettice & Martha died? How would I get hold of a birth certificate? I tracked down details for his birth which had Mark Usber Lownds, but not mothers name / maiden name

Birth certificate on Index gives his correct name - Usher, not Usber.

You can order online from the General Register Office:

You have to register on the site before you can use it.

You will need the details from the Index entry I gave you.

So Sunderland is the Registration District
10a is the Volume Number
524 is the Page Number

Certs cost £9.25 inclusive of postage.

Don't buy certs from anyone else as they will charge you double for exactly the same thing!
