Looking to speak with anyone with connections to Lindsay's of Old Monkland between 1800 to 1900, may have had an Irish Connection.

In particular the following couples:- Robert Lindsay/Mary Jane Lindsay, James Lindsay/Mary McFetters, Martha Lindsay/James Mahon

Thanks

I took a quick look for you and Martha died in 1922 just south of Airdrie in NM on Carlisle Rd age 94.  She was born in Ireland.  James Mahon was a coal miner he died in Airdrie in 1894 age 71.  His parents were James Mahon/Jane White.

As I don't see a marriage they have been married in Ireland.

If you send me a PM with your email I will send these two death Registrations.

Don

I have turned off all email notifications, thank you.

I'm looking for information on James Lindsay Rae, born 1869 in Old Monkland (Middle District).

He was the son of Henry Rae (born 1846) and Mary Jane Lindsay (born 1851), who married in Old Monkland.

James Lindsay Rae married a Mary Elizabeth but I don't know her maiden name or where they married. James Lindsay Rae worked in Kedah (now Malaysia) as an engineer where he and Mary Elizabeth had a son.

Does anyone have any information on these people?

Hi Robert, welcome to RootsChat.

I've had a look, but there is no listing of a marriage of James Lindsay Rae in Scotland, England, Wales or Ireland. So it looks as if he must have married somewhere in the east.

There is an obituary for James Lindsay Rae in the Straits Times of Singapore of 17 October 1940: "The death occurred yesterday at the Butterworth Hospital of Mr James Lindsay Rae, a Butterworth planter, after a brief illness. He was 56 years old and leaves two sons."

Obviously this one is too young to be the one born in 1869, but perhaps he is the son?

I also searched for James L Rae, which produced 656 results, and J L Rae, which produced 9022 results. A cursory glance suggests that most of them are spurious, but if you wish you can view them for yourself at http://eresources.nlb.gov.sg/newspapers/Digitised/Search

Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.

Hi Forfarian,

Thanks so much for your help. I don't think the James Lindsay Rae you found is related as he only had one son and not by that name. I'll take a look at the link you provide. Many thanks for that.
