Old photos in need of dating (South Wales)
« on: Thursday 12 January 17 15:32 GMT (UK) »
Hi all,

I was hoping someone would be kind enough to help me pin-point the dates on some old photos I have in my possession. They were my late great-grandmothers and we haven't a clue who they are. We'd love to try and work out who they might be.

Thanks!

Thank you Carol!

That sounds right and sort of confirms my assumption that it's my g-g-g-grandmother Emma Hodge who would be in her 70s at the time. The back is blank and it's thin photo paper.

I have a couple more if you wouldn't mind have a glance over them.

The one of men walking is from the seaside resort Porthcawl in South Wales, with a postcard back.
The young girl and the two men also have a postcard back.
The other one of a group of men is blank at the back, if I remember correctly.

Thanks again!
Danny

I would estimate the first two to be Edwardian and the third and forth one 1920s. The divided back postcard was first introduced in the U.K. In 1902.
Men are often hard to date as the clothing styles can cover a wider date range.
Posting the backs of postcards can help to narrow down the date for them from the stamp box.
