Elizabeth Greenwood- who was her father.
« on: Monday 09 January 17 20:42 GMT (UK) »
Alice was born 1827. in Ince Lancashire and christened at All Saints Wigan Lancs. She had a daughter Elizabeth Greenwood b 1847. I am trying to find Elizabeth's father. He would have been my Gt Gt grandfather.  Alice eventually married James Bimson, and her daughter Elizabeth, married Isaac Wilson Lawrence in 1866. I believe Alice was in service at a house in Ince when Elizabeth was born. Can anyone help please?

Welcome to Rootschat.

I'm afraid it sounds as if Elizabeth was illegitimate, so you may have problems proving who was her father. Have you got her birth certificate, is the space for her father blank? What about her marriage certificate, does she name a father on that?

I see her maiden name is actually Greenwood. Have now found what must be Alice's baptism on Family Search.
This must be Elizabeth Greenwood's birth indexed on GRO:
GREENWOOD, ELIZABETH
GRO Reference: 1847  D Quarter in WIGAN UNION  Volume 21  Page 734
Gives no maiden name for mother.

Thanks Nova67, I think Elizabeth's dad will never be known. It must have been hard to live back then.
