The beauty of posting on here is that lots of people, not just one, give their opinions, so you can be fairly sure that the date given is accurate. I never cease to be amazed by their knowledge and how they can date from one or two clues.

I am very grateful for the dating and restores that have been done for me. Thank you all.

And me!!  I don't ask for restorations, but I do ask for, and receive, dating information.  I'm so jealous  8)
Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.

Service by members on RC is many people can compare their own know dated photos or knowledge like clothing style etc. ( as an example:- Say a member has in the past worked in theatricals costuming department with a wide knowledge range of different dress though the ages but has no knowledge of dating photos but put the two together and bingo.)

One persons view is very limited against the many.
In my opinion the marriage residence is not always the place of birth. Never forget Workhouse and overseers accounts records of birth

Thank you everyone for your responses, I think we are all in agreement that we are indeed very lucky.

I love to watch the threads on this board and have learned a few tips from the photo daters. I do like to have a guess at the dates of photos and then wait for the opinion of the experts. Occasionally I get it right, then other times an expert comes along and proves I have a lot to learn  ;D

As for the photo restorers, I am totally amazed at what they can do, I really don't have the talent, patience or eye balls to try and do what they do.
