Wow,

I don't know how you found that but I'm sure that would be him.

Thank you so much.

Happy New Year to you and yours.

Thank you so much.

I really appreciate this. Bridgeton sounds about right.

Dear Janice

Please dont just take what I have written as being an absolute. The service number is based on AIR 78 in The National Archives (See TNA website) and a listing that I have of issue dates of RAF numbers. My service number deduction is based on your birth date of 1929 and a person undertaking National Service between the ages of 17 and 21. The Bridgeton Glasgow birth index reference is just one with others either side of that date in different Glasgow districts. My information requires some diligent investigation to qualify its accuracy, as with all family history research. However, it is a bit of a pointer. A service number can be a very useful tool, because it is a long set of numbers, with a certain uniqueness, for typing into other indexes or newspaper archives, just to see if, by chance, it references the name you are after.

Regards

Mark

Thank you Mark,

The Bridgeton birth is the one that I will start with, as that is where most of my family were from. Once I establish the birth, I will then check for his death, which I may have already found, but have to confirm.

The service records, I will order once I check into everything else, but you have given me a great place to start. Before today, I didn't see any light at the end, but now there is a glimmer of hope.

I had no idea he was in the service, until a friend pointed out that the buttons on his jacket looked like a military uniform. From there, I checked Ancestry and found him in the electoral rolls, showing an "S" beside his name, which meant he was in the Services. A few moments after I had posted on this site, all of you came up with ideas that I hadn't considered, (e.g. RAF) but should have.

Hopefully, I will find him and possibly be able to find other family members as well.

I really appreciate all the work you have done for me.

Thank you.

Janice
