I think you need to find the Christenings of all John/Anns Children in Shropshire from 1826.
This will give you a indication of possible Parents  names for John.
2 Children are named after Ann Lawleys Parents as you can see Joseph/Rebecca.

You must have spent ages working on my topic and I am really grateful as I'm sure I was following the wrong thread. I do have a couple of questions if you don't mind me asking them. Where can I find mothers' maiden names on FreeReg as I don't know how you found them - and also the fact that Rebecca  was baptised at George St Methodist. I couldn't find that either. I'm also still trying to find out who John Hopwood b. 1798 - 1806 parents were. Some on Ancestry say that they were Joseph b. 1752 and Mary Broughall. If you let me know where to look I'd be really grateful.

It was still 30 degrees here at midnight in Sydney so being in the air-conditioned lounge on the computer was a good option (to hot to sleep!)

Scroll down and click on Staffordshire
Press Search
For some reason her Baptism is entered 4 times.
Click on the number to the side and whole entry will come up
