In desperate need of restoration - Well loved photo

Can anyone do anything at all to improve this photo which seems to have been well loved by someone over the years? Thank you in advance, any slight improvement would be fantastic

Wow, what an improvement. What program is everyone using as I have several more photos, perhaps I could have a go myself! Thank all again, those are all fantastic!
