Rebecca Dewart

Hi

Looking for any information (prior to her marriage in Ryhope, County Durham, England in 1873), for:
Rebecca Dewart born on the 12th November 1848 (according to 1939 register) in Hillsborough, Down, Ireland.
Her father is named as Thomas Dewart on her marriage certificate.

Can anybody find her baptism, or any trace of her prior to 1873.

To find a baptism you'll need to know what religion the family might have been (not all church records are online or even survive).

The earlier census is 1871  no trace of George or Rebecca in Durham   or elsewhere. if he the later census 1881 shows the family growing, George b Kent was a coachman

Over in Ireland, there are Dewart  eg see

Spelling variations inc Deward and Duart, so this could be a relation

I tried familysearch.org, emeraldancestors, and ancestryireland without success but didn’t check thoroughly variant spelling

there are entries in Ireland census 1901where there are DEWART LIVING in
Small Park (Hilleborough, Down)this adjoins hillsborough itself

At PRONI under wills there is   Probate of the Will of John Dewart late of Tullynore County Down Farmer who died 10 May 1896 granted at Belfast to James Morrison of Edenticullo said County and George Scott of Tullymore Farmers.

My grandparents were the name of Dewart from Hillsborough but originally came from Tullynore.

what happened to Cabra and Magheralin
to look the above up Tullynore sites, use a slider to change to modern map to locate existing roads then look up modern google map Edenticullo Road, then branch off going down Clogher road, then start looking looking NE before the road bends sharply to go SW.  there are 5 trees surrounding what looks what has been a building and that could be 17 and 18.  One of the four will be the oldest, your family tree and William might know anyway.
 
however a Duart onename study exists, starting with John Duart, b. 1784 in Hillsborough, County Down, Northern Ireland who immigrated to Canada

My Robert Dewart was born Hillsborough, Cty Down c1842/44.  He went to Sunderland and married Barbara Haugh.  Roberts Father was Thomas Dewart.  Roberts daughter Margaret Alice Dewart was my Grandmother on Dads side.  She married John Richardson Meynell in Sunderland. 

I am just starting to follow up on my Irish Dewarts now that there are more records online to try to confirm dates.

I don't have a Rebecca Dewart or any other Irish born Dewarts and it's been a few years since I have really looked closely at my records but I have a fair amount of information on the Dewarts of Sunderland.  It could be possible that Rebecca might  be Roberts sibling.  I need to look more closely at this though.

There are also Dewarts in Kent.

I have a Dewart connection in NE England who is related to Roberts lineage and is my second cousin.

you can look up each for detail of homestead and land rented or owned. and an 1860ish map that shows boundary of property and outline of buildings  Griffiths has a slight reputation of standardizing names.. However Stewart or Stuart might mean a religious spelling background or the enumerators.
