James Machin (1818) - Swynnerton
« on: Monday 19 December 16 00:56 GMT (UK) »
Hi,

My ancestor James Machin (1818) was living in Swynnerton in 1841 with the following people:

1841 swynnerton
ho107/993/1 page 5

thomas 65 ag lab
elizabeth 65
robert 7
JAMES 23 (my ancestor)
ANN 20 (James' wife)
ALFRED 1 (James' 1st son)

Next door, there is also the family of William Machin.

I can work out that how all the other Machin are related (Thomas is married to Elizabeth, Robert is their Grandson and William Machin (next door) is Thomas' son). However I cannot link James to any of these people. I am assuming they are closely related since they are living together.

The only baptism I could find for James Machin (1818 in Swynnerton), listed him as the illegitimate child of Ann Machin. I also found an Ann Machin baptized in 1793 in Swynnerton with father George Machin and Mother Mary, but no link to the other Machins. I was thinking maybe George and Thomas were brothers or Cousins.

Any help to Link my Ancestor James Machin (1818) to the other Machins on the census would be much appreciated.

Kind regards,
John

Is there any fathers name on his marriage cert?

March qtr 1840

James Machin/Ann Hozelam Newport S 18 151

GRO search for mmn on son Samuel's birth shows her maiden name as Hazledine.  However - GRO index shows marriage as Hozelam so if you were to order the marriage cert you need to ensure you use Hozelam

Thanks for the reply.

The marriage certificate lists his father as Thomas Adamson. I am not sure if this was his actual father or just someone who was like his father. Unfortunately it doesn't really help me to link him to the other Machins.

I wonder if his mother perhaps married somebody called Adamson.  Another possibility is that he knew the name of his biological father
