Completed: Old German Marriage Certificate 1828

Hi all,

Is anyone here skilled in reading Old German script?

The transcription shows it's for the marriage of Ernst August Vorwerk, (son of Christian Vorwerk) and Johanne Louise Domke (dau of Gottlob Domke) on 13 Apr 1828 in Möstchen, Züllichau-Schwiebus, Brandenburg, Germany (now Mostki, Poland); but there seems to be a lot more information on the entry.
I've looked around on the internet and found what each column is supposed to be for, which sort of line up for some of the columns I've been able to make out.
1. Groom's name & his parents names, including where they lived
2. Occupation and residence of Groom
3. Groom's Age and birth date
4. Whether parental permission was obtained, or not needed
5. Groom's marital status (bachelor or widower)
6. Bride's name
7. Bride's parents and their address
8. Bride's Age & date of birth
9. Whether bride had parental permission
10. Marital Status - unmarried or widower (if so, shows previous marriage info)
11. Dates their intentions to marry were announced
12. Pastor & Marriage Date

I looked around on the net at the Old German handwriting sites and with that I was able to make out Ernst August Vorwerk, Louisa and Christian (but in the brides father column?) but yeah, it's a bit tricky for me!

If anyone is able to decipher it I'd be most grateful.

Hi Shelley,

The register has been maintained in an inconsistent manner.

Directly under the headings there is an entry for the marriage of Johann Christian Laenger and Louise Paech.

The lengthy text in the first column relating to Ernst August Vorwerk actually reports the calling of the banns on the 13th, 20th and 27th April.

It states that he was a bachelor, a master cartwright [Stellmacher - I think that's what is written] and the eldest son of the Most Honourable Retainer [Wohledlen Herrn Amtmann] Christian Vorwerk  of Hel... (??).

Retainer is an inadequate translation of Amtmann. Wikipedia provides a full explanation https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amtmann

I'll have to check a map to see if I can work out the place names.

ohhhh no wonder I was confused!

So that whole section in the first column starting at 'On? 13th, 20th and 27th April...." to the bottom of the yellow section is the whole record which should have gone across the page but they've just written it in the first column only?
ohh now I see Gottlob is split over 2 lines. I think the town for him is Sulechow (Polish version of Zullichau). Not sure what the Hel... town could be though.

The page heading is 'Banns and Marriages', but the column headings would only be appropriate for an actual marriage. So maybe the convention was to record the banns in the first column.

Looking again, I believe the place is Selchow, which appears to be modern-day Zelechow - not far northwest of Mostki.

The other one might be Welkau, now called Wilkowo, ESE of Mostki.
