KB3192391 cannot update
« on: Wednesday 14 December 16 16:14 GMT (UK) »
Hello,
My Belarc Advisor is telling me that KB3192391 is a CRITICAL update, I have tried to download this and a box pops up telling me that this update is not applicable to my computer.
Does anyone know how I can get this critical update to install.
Many thanks.
Peter.

What OS are you on?

This update is for Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 only.

From the Microsoft knowledge database re KB3192391, see the third paragraph:

•The security fixes listed here that are included in this security update 3192391 are also included in this October 2016 month’s Security Monthly Quality Rollup 3185330, which additionally includes improvements and fixes from the update that was released in September 20, 2016 - 3185278. Installing either update will include the security fixes listed here.

•If you use update management processes other than Windows Update and automatically approve all Security updates classifications for deployment, be aware that both the October 2016 Security Only Quality Update 3192391 and the October 2016 Security Monthly Quality Rollup 3185330 for the month will be deployed. We recommend that you review your update deployment rules to make sure the desired updates are deployed.

• Updated This October 2016 Security Only Quality Update was revised December 13, 2016. With this change, this update will not be applicable for installation on a computer where the Security Monthly Quality Rollup or the Preview of Monthly Quality Rollup from October 2016 (or a later month) is already installed, because those updates contain all security fixes that are included in this Security Only Quality Update.

Michael.

Added - I think this means you may not need this update because you already have the earlier one. It wasn't among all the other updates installed on my Win 7 64 bit desktop today.

You could try downloading it from the Microsoft Catalogue - https://catalog.update.microsoft.com/v7/site/Search.aspx?q=KB3192391 - and install it manually (ensure you pick the correct version).  Interestingly its listed on their as an October Update but was last updated on Monday.

However, reading Michael's reply, if you have those other updates already installed, it shouldn't prompt to install.  When did your PC last check for windows updates?  It may be that it was prior to others being installed.

Smudwisk,

I think it's a case of Belarc Advisor saying Peter's computer needs the update and Microsoft's pop-up box saying he doesn't.

Michael.

Ah, have to admit I missed the bit about Belarc Adviser, that would figure. ::)  Have had instances in the past though when Windows Update has wanted to install an update but then failed saying not needed.  Problem was that WU hadn't checked for whatever reason for some days.
