Would someone know what branch of the armed forces this uniform is from and possibly the year.
Thankyou.

It is certainly army, Second World War period, after 1942 as the front buttons are exposed.  He is wearing a light coloured lanyard on his left shoulder.  At that time, the Royal Artillery with whom a white lanyard is associated, wore theirs on the right shoulder so that, and the fact that his cap badge is not a Gunner cap badge. rules out the Royal Artillery. He is wearing two good conduct stripes on the lower left arm indicating 6 years good conduct (or undiscovered crime) so with the buttons, post war?  Beneath the stripes is a trade badge of some sort, too much obscured to ident.  No shoulder insignia to be seen.
The cap angle makes badge ident difficult.  the RAVC wore a white lanyard and their badge had a similar shape, can't be certain though.  It is the badge which is the main clue here.

Not too helpful I'm afraid

It is with great difficulty I share with you that in the early hours of 07 August 2021, Maximilian passed away unexpectedly but peacefully.

With deep sadness,

Do you have anything that looks like an army number? It will be 7 digits if he served in the 1930s and 8 digits if he joined during WW2 or later. So probably 7 digits based upon MaxD's date of the tunic. It could be listed on any BMD certificates he was connected with.

Army numbers were issued in blocks so you can id his first unit. It will also allow you to order his record from the MOD.

Have you found him on the 1939 Register?

Ken

From information contained in the other thread about this chap, found here: http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=760973.0

the poster believes this to be a picture of his Great-Uncle who was born in Scotland. Perhaps we should direct our thoughts towards identifying the cap badge as a potentially Scottish regiment? Might the (Queen's Own) Cameron Highlanders be a possibility?
