I have done a free street search for Midway Street and number 12 is missing.

There is a big link between Longsight and railways.

There is a Peach family who seem to be working on the railway as guards. Did your grandfather have any connection with the railway?

Heather

Hi we're not related to the peach family. Mrs Peach was just Nellie's friend

I'm afraid not, usually the directories only give you one name; the name of the person who supplied the information and their occupation if they have given one. At least you have a first name Annie now.

So Annie is married by 1940.

Assuming she married in Lancs there are a couple of possibles to check out.  Although I'm not sure how you would check them out  :-\ but here goes

Dec 1930 Manchester S - 2 possible children from this marriage
Peach Albert V
Graham Annie

Jun 1933 Salford
Peach Reginald S
Macdermott Annie

Hinchliffe - Huddersfield Wiltshire

Hello DJS

I've only just seen your post because I just happened to type in Midway Street, Levenshulme to see what came up. I was born at number 44 Midway Street - my paternal grandmother's house - in 1948. Number 12 was at the top of the street, nearer to Stockport Road, number 44 was towards the bottom of the street, close to the Manchester/London railway line. My Mum and Dad eventually settled at number 37 Midway Street. I remember Mrs Peach very well, she was a lovely lady and one of the few people my Mum respected! She had a lovely daughter, Sheila. When I was very young, at primary school, I had found some red nail polish and put it on. The headmistress at Crowcroft Park school was furious when she saw it and demanded I removed it before the following day. Mum said, "Go and ask Mrs Peach if Sheila has any nail polish remover". So I did. She hadn't! I got another, bigger, telling off the next day. Hope this is of some interest to you. Kind regards, Jan

Midway street is (sorry) “midway” between Levenshulme and Longsight along the A6 - I don’t know exactly where the boundary between the two is.

As for being born at “20 Nell Lane”, that would be Withington Hospital.
