"Who Do You Think You Are" Series 13, Episode #2: Amanda Holden
« on: Thursday 01 December 16 23:00 GMT (UK) »
I can't see any threads about this yet.  I thought it was really interesting, even if she was a bit over the top with her exclamations of surprise.  It was noted that on the French side of the family it was the women that the vineyard passed to.  I assume Amanda's ancestor wasn't the eldest daughter so she didn't get the vineyard, or because she'd moved to England it passed to another sister.

The story about the shipwreck was an eye opener, there is no way anything like that could be kept a secret nowadays with everyone having a 'phone with a camera, and using facebook etc.

I enjoyed this episode!
Two interesting threads in the 1 programme.

I was particularly interested in the French theme - as (allegedly!) I have French blood in me, somewhere?!

Closest I've got is a Jersey birth :)

This sheds more light on the Lancastria story - www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-33092351 and http://ww2today.com/17th-june-1940-the-lancastria-bombed-and-sunk

There's lots more on the internet

It's often been said that many apparent loose assumptions in WDYTYA are corroborated off-screen as it were, but I thought they were putting a lot of faith in the age listed in the 1841 census for Collin Thomas, working back to assumptions he was apprentice at 10 and joined the Navy at 15.

Was anybody else shouting at the telly during that bit?

Yes Gerry I thought the same with the ages! Wonder if they knew from the baptism that it was 1791ish but just skipped that part as they weren't focusing on taking the line backwards.

Really interesting episode, found Collin's story fascinating, and found myself googling the Lancastria afterwards.

Yes I was shouting at the you tube video when it showed the 1841 census. I was surprised they did not mention the + and -  of the age by 5 years.  I must say I enjoyed the episode.

Cheers
