Boston Lincolnshire Group?
« on: Thursday 01 December 16 18:06 GMT (UK) »
Dear All,

Please could someone help me? Would anyone know of a genealogy group in the Boston area of Lincolnshire? I'm in need of some help & guidance with my local research.

Cheers
Tackrill

The Lincolnshire F.H.S. did used to have a Boston branch, but there's no mention of it on their website now. Perhaps it folded.

Still, might be your best bet. http://www.lincolnshirefhs.org.uk/

Alternatively the Fenland F.H.S. covers south Lincs.

I'm thinking it had its last meeting a few months ago.

If pamthomas happens to see this, she will know. :)

I've sent her a PM.

Thanks for the PM, Geoff-E.  :) I haven't been to the forum for a few days, so might have missed the query without your message.

The Boston branch of Lincolnshire FHS sadly closed in May this year.

Tackrill, as others have suggested post your query on the board and see what answers transpire. It would be helpful if you would say if you are within easy travelling distance of Boston (i.e. about an hour) because I know the library have certain local information.

Or if not I'd be happy to look stuff up there on your behalf.

Dear All,

Pam, Pstainthorp et al!

The good news is I'm within 45 minutes of Boston so the library lead mentioned by Pam was on my radar. However, there's a burning issue I have as regards one family individual. I'm trying to establish the fate of my Great Grandfather, Samuel Overton born in 1866 in Sibsey. He married Lucy White of Leake in 1887 & they lived in both Green Street & Joiners Row in town. In the 1911 Census he's not registered with the family (the majority of which moved to Grimsby sometime after) but there is a Samuel Overton recorded as died in 1921 aged 53. The age doesnt tally up by a couple of years so I was hoping someone could help to clarify if this is indeed my man. I'd also appreciate the location of Joiners Row in the town too.  ;)

Thanks to you all in advance & for your assistance previously.

Terry

Joiners Row

Go here http://maps.nls.uk/geo/explore/sidebyside.cfm#zoom=18&lat=52.9785&lon=-0.0236&layers=176&right=BingHyb

See the Corn Exchange ... there is a line of six houses running north/south immediately to the right of the Exchange. That was Joiners Row.

It is labelled here but it's a tricky site to navigate. You may have to fiddle with the zoom.
