Tommy Carroll 1900 Liverpool

I am searching for any clues to the Carroll family.

What I have is the following:-

Tommy Carroll born around 1900 married a Mary McGlynn in Liverpool in 1924, he died in Liverpool in 1978.  I am trying to trace his parents (I do not have his marriage certificate)   Originally it was thought he was born in London but from enquiries made he may have been in Liverpool.

Tommy would have been my partners grandfather but he has no real information about him.  He thinks that somewhere there is an Irish link but is unsure.

Tommy and Mary had a son Leo who was my partners father.

Any pointers in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.

One possibility is to look at his headstone gravestone to see if that provides any clues

Have you tried to find him on the 1939 register to establish his date of birth 

His marriage gives first name as Thomas

There's an online tree that records him as  born on October 1, 1902, in Birkenhead, Cheshire and  died in December 1983 in Liverpool. The GRO death index confirms the date of birth as correct for the Thomas who died in 1983.

If you find the family in the 1939 register as Rosie suggests that will give you a date of birth so you can check for correlation.

I'd advise you to order the marriage certificate which would give you his father's name and (perhaps) occupation.

There was a Thomas Carroll born in Birkenhead in Q/E Dec 1902 but he died that same quarter.
