frederick scott was born 1883, he was the son of frederick scott and jermimah matthews, he is my 1 st cousin 3 x removed, do have info on the family it helps, his cousins were the matthews above through his mother jermima matthews.

I have information to pass on re Frederick Scott ;-
He married Naomi Mills in St Marks Church Mitcham in August 1915 he was in the Royal Fusiliers.
There were a couple of candidates on the war graves site but a kind researcher looked up the records  held at Surrey & we managed to pin him down. He is recorded in the volunteers record for April/June1915 Rgt - Royal Fusiliers age 27 Occupation Hawker Birthplace Fulham attestation Wandsworth of 26 Fountain Rd Mitcham.
His casualty details Pte 17733 Royal Fusiliers 12th battalion died 14/10/1915

 :)thank you very much for the information, while i know about him and family and that he married naomi, and i found naomi marrying again, i did think he had died put never made the connection to the war. i do not live far from mitcham, so i will go and visit and pay my respects.

You can also add my 2 great uncles who died in the first world war.  These were Robert James of 27 Queens Road. He died in 1917 and his name is on the Tynescot Memorial in Belgium. His brother Samuel James who lived in Queens Road also died during this war but we have been unable to trace him.

To clear up one post - Ocean Draper was married to Alfred James and they lived at 35 Queens Road.

I think these names on the memorial were from the travelling community:

Arthur Gardener - b. 1899, son of William and Louisa Gardener, he was a "golf caddie" before the war. 

John Gardener - b. 1892, details as above. He was a "golf caddie" too. 

Thanks for the info. Arthur and John Gardner are both in my family tree (I'm descended from William's brother Noah).
