Racing horse trainers. Coleraine
« on: Monday 21 November 16 21:56 GMT (UK) »
Trying to find additional information about a Sarah Ann Rodgers. Born in 1867 and died 1907. Her family was supposedly involved in the training of racehorses.

Does anyone know how I could find out anything that may help find additional information or is this really a needle in haystack?

Any ideas welcomed. Sorry I don't even have parents names.

Thank you

There is an Alexander Rodgers horse trainer, sadly not with his family in 1901

Thanks for this information. I want so much to assume it to be correct!  Area, dates etc would all fit and it would give me something else to work with.

Oh the joys of genealogy. One forward one back.

I'll keep the info and hope one day I'll be able to add to it

I was looking for both Alexandar's and Sarah's births to see if they had matching parents, nothing oblivious stright off, a find could be a bit hit and miss.
Did she die in Ireland?

Re: Alexander Rodgers in 1901- the townland has been mistranscribed but should read Mountsandal

This could be him in 1911- Ballysally just outside Coleraine:
www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Londonderry/Portstewart/Ballysally/593016

Marriage to Jane Leighton in 1904 gives father as Hugh Rogers, farmer, and the Beresford Place address isn't far from Mountsandal:

Unfortunately she's still alive in 1911-

Thank you aghadowey and Sinann

Sarah died in Dec 1907. I was told Ballykelly but unsure if this is where she lived or is buried.

She married Robert McCurry in1864 - Carryclare.

One of their children is a Margaret Leighton Rodgers McCurry born 1905 in Glasgow. I always wondered where the Leighton came from so was interested in the Leighton Alexander was married to in the census extract.

Alexander is a name used often through the family.

It just is so tempting to fit it all together.

Thank you so much for this. Feel it to be so nearly there.

Just noticed the marriage to Sloan. Thanks but as you can see I have her marriage to McCurry.

I had hoped the name would be uncommon

... She married Robert McCurry in1864 - Carryclare ...

The marriage was in 1890 and details for Sarah Ann's father were omitted:
