Birth Registration
« on: Friday 18 November 16 16:03 GMT (UK) »
I want to order a copy of my aunt’s birth certificate. I think I have found the correct one except for the birth quarter which is given as the second quarter (2). She was born in March but the birth was not registered until April. So my question is, are the records organized by the event date or registration date?
Thanks Jessie

But of course.  If you are in a big office, collating records which have accumulated for three months, when the whistle blows on the last working day of the quarter, the box is closed and a new one is opened for the next quarter.

Some registrations come in quite late - the official limit used to be 6 weeks - so you can't hang around for stragglers to be included in the previous quarter where they may belong in theory.

Yes, if someone was born in say December 1883 but the birth was registered in January 1884, then it will appear in the Jan, Feb, mar 1884 quarter. 6 weeks were given to register a birth starting with the birth date.
