US Servicemen in Australia WW2

Hi, I have found among my late grandmother possessions two 'dogtags'' .
 One for a P. Amos no. 39232528 and the other for a A. Pierson no. 223 78 91 T  1-42 -A- USN. I have no knowledge of the connection between her or possibly her then granddaughter and these US servicemen who would have been in Australia on leave in the war. I do not know if they survived the war or were kia. I would like to know.

The one ending  USN   is probably United States Navy,    The way the numbers are  grouped could well indicate   plenty more information.               One possibility is that he was a crew member on a US Navy troop ship.

If you want to find the next of kin, you may want to check the 1930 and 1940 census, which are available on www.familysearch.org.  The WWII army enlistment records are there, too.  If you are able to narrow down a state where these men were from, there are links to military records/databases by state here - http://www.militaryindexes.com/worldwartwo/index.html

There is a database of people buried in military cemeteries here - http://gravelocator.cem.va.gov/  Not all veterans were buried in a military cemetery, but it may be worth checking.

Hi, Re Paris Amos. I did find him many years ago but the posting was on Ancestry and I do not contribute to it so was unable to contact his daughter . Here I cannot post my email address but if allowed you will find a link at my web site www.terrycallaghan.com. for contact.
As for Alexander Johnston, it looks like he has been found but are there any kin wishing for his tag.
