This may be the arrival of the McGahan* family in New Zealand?

*Margaret is 16, not 13 as mentioned in the obituary. Her father Bernard is not mentioned, but on the other hand I have not found his death in New Zealand. Margaret from "Armagh" in obituary and "Omagh" in the manifest of the 'Rooparell'

Oh My goodness, thank you all for joining in our search.  I went off to work and came home to all this wonderful research and reading.  Yes I am surprised there are not more family searching however I shall, with help, make progress for the family.

You are so right.... it wasn't Drury as his birth on the marriage certificate.  It was recorded as that on the daughter, Ida Jospehine's (the younger of twins) (my great grandmother's), birth certificate.  Which I do have.

I have the marriage cert, it says they were married in Drury, catholic church.  I have searched Drury online to see if anything else came up about the family.  Not much that is easy to find.  I did have Margaret's Obituary, which was very useful, but not Williams I don't think.  so THANKS.
I will now go and read the other records.   Oh to find out about his siblings and their parents, etc. thank you.

My son was told by a physio that he has Irish hips - only Irish people have this shaped bone... so now we know where the Irish is! :-)

The marriage cert places his age as 26 in 1880
Ida Josephine's birth certificate places his age as 37 in 1891

both suggest he was born in 1854

So the shipping record has him 4 years older than he would have been?

I'm sure there was another William Mooney as there was one living in Waihi at the same time as our William was in Waikato/Auckland area.

This places William as having been in NZ 37 Years from the date this was written....on 11/04/1917  so that means he came around 1880 aye?

aha,   I see I have more children on my tree than she had listed in her obituary, even if some had predeceased her I still think I have a lot of checking to do there now.  Darn it.

Hello Lucy2,

No there are no names of witness's on the marriage certificate.

I don't have his death record either.  There are lots of mysteries here.
Thanks

Totally appreciating this support. :-)

Hello Lucy2,

No there are no names of witness's on the marriage certificate.

Ah ... I'm guessing you have a transcription of the marriage record in the form of a certificate ??
[These don't make provision for including the witnesses names, unfortunately.   Sometimes witnesses names can be of help when we have nothing much else to go on - i.e. it gives us another "avenue" to go down.  ;) ]

*   I would suggest though that you purchase the death record (printout*) for William MOONEY - 1939 ... it may just contain something additional ?   [*A "printout" is  the recommended purchase - it's an image of the registry entry (as opposed to a certificate which has transcribed information) - also it's a less costly option. ]
