Mooney family from Ireland? Lived in Rangiriri/ Waikato / Auckland

William Mooney 1854–1939 who married Margaret McGahan on May 24, 1880. They had 16 children in 21 years. He died in 1939 in Pukekohe, Auckland, at the age of 85.

I am seeking further information about Th Mooney family and where exactly he came from.  His' son's service records place him as being from Ireland although this William had recored on their marriage certificate that he was born in Drury NZ.  This doesn't feel right.... can anyone help please.  :-)

The above age at death fits with the arrival of this William Mooney age 24 in 1874 aboard the Zealandia,he was bracketed with a Joseph Keogh aged 26

Mmm ... what doesn't seem right is that if this William MOONEY married (Margaret McGAHAN) on
24 May 1880... then his birthplace would NOT have been recorded on his marriage certificate.        
It wasn't until October of the year 1880, following a law change, that provision was made to record additional data such as birthplaces of the contracting couple, names of parents, occupation of fathers, etc. on marriage certificates.   Do you have a copy of the marriage record ??

I see you have a tree at ancestry ... and a message board post showing that you know William was possibly from Queens Co. Ireland.
Mmm ... large family ... a bit surprised that no one else is researching it.

I tried to follow up on the Joseph KEOGH whom William was bracketed with on the passenger list.  Quite often when you see things like this, it can mean that the people concerned are related to each other. [There are lots of instances where young lads - Irish and English especially - who were cousins, took advantage of immigration schemes in the lands "downunder" to make better lives for themselves. ]    But no luck so far with finding this Joseph KEOGH
