Hi Sandra - This is my Culhane family as well. I have Patricks death certificate which definitely links the families. The only sibling I cant find is what happened to Thomas Culhane
DNA has shown matches to John Culhane 1823-1895 who married Bridget Gahan who had 9 children in New York and Ohio and Michael Culhane 1828-1862 who married Jane Harvey and whose descendants were known as Culhans and Calhans. Their 4 sons were born in Ohio. Their parents died young
Speculatively their could have been siblings to James or cousins.
Looking at the Irish newspapers on Findmypast the 1800s were very violent times for the Culhanes. They were on the receiving end of it as well as giving it. Murders, theft, deception, stealing. Thats not to say our Culhanes were part of that mix....
If Catherine Culhane nee Murphy was living by herself in a 4th class dwelling in 1901 its very odd her children didnt pay for her to emigrate. If she was living in Ballynacarriga, Limerick, Ireland and died in the workhouse in Rathkeale did she have family in Ballynacarriga?
