John Peirce - victualler in Newbury late 17 century

I found a while ago that John Peirce (victualler in Newbury)  was the father of John Peirce (c1809-31st July 1888) a bookbinder, born in Newbury, but married and living in London.  The bookbinder John, was awarded the Freedom of the City of London in October 1866 and his father was mentioned.
This was the first time that I knew the forename of the father of the bookbinder John.  I have not been able to find the baptisms of either John Peirce....and yes, I have looked at various spelling of the surnames.
Any help or suggestion of directions to go forward would be very welcome

With regards to the above, it might help if I got the century right!!

I have guessed that John Peirce, victualler, was born c 1770.

Had a quick look and there is a John  Pearce baptised at Newbury Independent Chapel 26.10.1767 s of John and Elizabeth of Upton.Born 28th August.
Also a burial for John Pearce at St Nicholas Newbury 5.11.1850 age 77
A marriage John Pierce and Mary Ann Simmons also there 29.9.1809

None of which of course proves he is yours

I had found the baptism of John Pearse in 1767, but not the burial or marriage.

John Peirce, the bookbinder, was born  c1809 as far as I can work out, so the marriage is a possibility.  I don't know the bookbinder's mothers name.  I only found out his fathers name and the fact that his father was 'deceased'  when the bookbinder was awarded the Freedom of the City of London, so the burial is also possible.

Possibly this is the john Pearce who was buried 1850 Newbury?

and baptism for John:

St Nicolas Church Newbury
 
born 23rd October 1809 and baptised the same day

John Pearce son of John and Elizabeth Pearce

Suz, I have been looking at the new GRO search site, brilliant, and have found the death entry for John Pearce, Newbury Dec qtr 1850.  His age on the certificate is 73 which differs from the age at burial. There's a surprise!
Anyway, I think I might send for the cert.  Online PDFs are £6.  A little better that the postage cert and more like it used to be.
And Chris, your info looks very good.  I don't suppose there is any way of getting copies of the info of the 1815 census.  And the baptism is spot on.  Can I find that online?

Hi Pauline,

I think that the Toomers 1815 census is available to buy at the Berkshire Family History Society.  Newbury library have a copy of this census and the parish records for St Nicolas Church Newbury so I looked up the info for you while I was in town yesterday. Unfortunately these church records are not available online.

Thank you for the information.  I will try my library on my visit next week.  They may be able to help with the church records.  Some of the St Nicholas Church records are available on findmypast, but not that far back and not baptisms.

I have bought items from the Berkshire FHS before so no problem there
