1861 Census - looks like Kastanglen, Scotland
« on: Thursday 03 November 16 07:18 GMT (UK) »
Hi.  I'm looking at Andrew DOUGLAS or DOUGLASS living in Yorkshire and he was born in a place that looks like Kastanglen.  Has anyone got any ideas please.  Thanks all.

The 1851 census suggests that he was born in Edinburgh.

Below is a link to Towns and Villages in Scotland beginning with K

http://www.ukwebindex.co.uk/townandvillage/Scotland/K/

I can't see anything that looks like the place named in the census record.
Ashford: Somerset, London
England: Devon, London, New Zealand
Holdway: Wiltshire
Hooper: Bristol, Somerset
Knowling: Devon, London
Southcott: Devon, China
Strong: Wiltshire
Watson: Cambridgeshire
White: Bristol
Windo - Gloucestershire, Somerset, Wiltshire

Thanks.  I hadn't found him in 1851.  Will take a look - am using FindMyPast so hopefully it's there.

Looking at the map, he could say Edinburgh if it's Rutherglen.  Does anybody else agree it may say Rutherglen?
