Wormwood scrubs prison records
« on: Wednesday 26 October 16 20:52 BST (UK) »
Hi
I came across a court record a while back regarding my grandfather Victor Stevens. He was convicted to 6 mths in wormwood scrubs for indecent assault on Nellie Silk. I would like to find out more about the case but cannot seem to find anything.
this is the transcript :

Name:
Victor Stevens

Date of Trial:
7 Sep 1891

Trial Year:
6th sept 1891

Location of Trial:
London, England

Sentence:
Imprisonment

H. Corser - magistrate
North London Police Court

Can anyone point me in the right direction for any more online records

Thanks

There aren't any records on TNA's site.

It's a pointer to the LMA site, but they don't have records for the time period you are after.

Later records can be viewed at the LMA as long as they aren't closed or unfit

Just to clarify, there are no individual prisoner records for the Scrubs between 1890 and 1917.

Prisoner records up to 1890 are at TNA, and not online. Records from 1917 onwards are at LMA, and are not online.

There are no surviving court records for the North London police court that would provide more details in this case.

The case may have been reported in a newspaper local to the area where the crime was committed. Few such newspapers are online.

The way to access these local newspapers is to contact the local history library for the appropriate London borough, as advised last time you posted ...
