I am researching the Durrant family from Sussex but am having trouble finding on-line Parish records (pre-1837). Neither Ancestry, Findmypast nor Familysearch seem to have very comprehensive records for Sussex - nor does Sussex On-line Parish Clerks (although they are very good there are gaps). Can you tell me how and where I can find Parish records, particularly for East Hoathly and Waldron? I live in Australia so can't visit in person even though I would love too  :)  Many thanks

I'm Aus too bottlebrush and have Sussex pre 1837 too.  sure I've seen East Hoathly and Waldron somewhere -- not on anything commercial. Will rack brain to think where and post again if find.

Meanwhile pop Durrant and "East Hoathly" into google brings up book and lots of wills. I just did.
Not where I've seen East Hoathly before so I will keep thinking

Sussex Family History Group is the place.If you become a member you will get online access to Baptisums & Burials they have transcribed.Well worth the money if you have loads of Sussex Ancestors.You can join online

You can also purchase the Sussex Marriage Index,pre 1837 CD from them. :)

Thanks, phenolphthalein  :)-  I have searched The Weald but can't really find what  I am looking for. I am trying to find a birth record of a Henry Durrant/Durant who was born about 1823 in Sussex. He came to Australia in 1842 as a Bounty Immigrant and on the shipping list gave his parents name as "Frank & Eliza' and his 'native place' as East Hoathly. He later had quite a few children and 3 of the sons were called Moses, Amos and Trayton. These names seem to occur quite a lot in Sussex.

Parish records will be at East Sussex Records Office.

The Sussex Family History Group has a Baptisms Index.
It says they have baptisms at East Hoathley from 1560 to 1903.

But you have to register, and there may be a fee?
Garrad (Suffolk, Essex, Somerset), Crocker (Somerset), Vanstone (Devon, Jersey), Sims (Wiltshire), Bridger (Kent)

The Sussex Family History Group has transcriptions for East Hoathly and Waldron amongst their records, membership is less than £20 for the year.

I think you might find what you are looking for in the Waldron records.
