Local newspaper obituaries - New South Wales
« on: Sunday 16 October 16 16:19 BST (UK) »
I'd be very grateful if someone could tell me the name of, and contact details for, the local / regional newspaper(s) which are likely to have reported the death / funeral of two of my relations who died relatively recently in New South Wales, please.
The first death occurred in 1986 and was described as late of Berkeley Vale formerly Turramurra.   This relation also lived at The Entrance.
The second death occurred in 2014 and was described as late of Wyong.
Since these deaths are very recent I don't intend to disclose any names publically.
I'm located in the UK.
Thanks.

Hi,
Have you checked the Ryerson Index for your people?

http://ryersonindex.net/search.php

If their deaths are listed there, the name of the newspapers will be shown.

Of course this index is a work in progress and certainly not all notices are listed.

If you are certain they are deceased, it would probably be all right to mention their names if it helps.

Hi, Ansellmw,
Welcome to Rootschat

Just to add a little to Sparrett’s post, you can search the Ryerson Index by district as well as person. For example there are 132 notices for Turramurra for the year 1986 - and all are in the Sydney Morning Herald rather than a local paper. Make sure you read the search instructions - you have to be fairly specific in regard to spelling etc. Once/if you find your relatives in the index just google for contact details. If you have any trouble I am sure there are people on here who will be able to help.

Cheers, Peter

Hi and Welcome from me too.

Berkeley Vale,  The Entrance, Wyong are all localities that are on the 'Central Coast'.   Here's one of the local newspapers that cover that area.

Here's a live link to the Palmdale Crematorium, http://www.palmdalegroup.com.au/ and contact page http://www.palmdalegroup.com.au/palmdale-contact-us.asp   They are usually very helpful.

NSW residents have access to the Sydney Morning Herald for those dates.   So if you find them on the ryerson index we will be able to find the death notices for you.  Recent Daily Telegraph death notices are available too.

Turramurra is a suburb on Sydney's North Shore.
So Sydney Morning Herald would be best bet.
Ryerson have indexed all DEATH notices in SMH since 'the year dot', but not all funeral notices.
