Please can anyone tell me where "Lower Meckle Street" was located.  I know it was somewhere in the parish of St Mary,s Pro-Cathedral.  My Great Grandmother is showing on the baptism registers n 1866  loving at Lower Meckle street

Could it be Lower Mecklenburg St.? "lower Mecklenburg Street renamed Tyrone Street and later renamed Railway Street around 1911"

thank you aghadowey. I knew Dublin was one of the poorest cities in Europe at that time but seeing photos of it really so how desolate it was.

The street was in the heart of an area commonly known as the Monto, famous worldwide as a Red Light district and mentioned in James Joyces 'Ulysess' as 'Nighttown'.
The Brothels and Kip houses were closed down in the early 1920s after a campaign by the Legion of Mary.
Must add that before the area became run down and neglected many titled, famous people lived in the Vicinity.

Mecklenburg Street is part of the "Monto" area of Dublin and was renamed a couple of times to improve its image as it was known as a red light district.

It was renamed Tyrone Street Upper and Tyrone Street Lower in 1887

Tyrone street Upper was then renamed to Railway Street (in 1912, I believe) which is the currrent name.

Tyrone Street Lower became Waterford Street and has since been demolished.

Ok   I think I need to  apologise  I think I have made  GIGANTIC MISTAKE !!

I checked all the directory records for Keady
All list Patrick Woods public Grocer in Keady  but no address
The 2 that say they are for Keady with Barrack Street  are NOT Keady when I  turned back to pages to double check    they were for Belfast  and that was a different Patrick  Woods

It looks like MY Patrick woods could be anywhere in Keady   (Death cert just says Keady for both himself and his wife)

I will look into the records at Bridge Street  Thomas or Owen could be related  I need to check it out     I will have a look at Bridge Street and see if I can link in

Again I am REALLY SORRY
