The street was in the heart of an area commonly known as the Monto, famous worldwide as a Red Light district and mentioned in James Joyces 'Ulysess' as 'Nighttown'.
The Brothels and Kip houses were closed down in the early 1920s after a campaign by the Legion of Mary.
Must add that before the area became run down and neglected many titled, famous people lived in the Vicinity.
