and I am not awesome ...lol  I live in Garston village whereupon everyone knows each other and all the families - it is just local knowledge...
if the weathers ok I will see if I can find the headstone this morning ....

so she was born Mary Ellen Jones ?.....my gg grandmother was also Mary Ellen Jones b 1858 Garston - her father was Evan Jones b 1833.. my Mary Ellen married Carl Freidrich Sacht - a sailor from Heligoland - a British owned Island off Denmark - but sold to Germany in 1890's

My great grandmother died in garston in 1894. On her death certificate it mentions thst her father was present but he is marked as a Griffith and her maiden name was Jones. Is there some mistake? I can scan it into my computer if necessary.

She died 13th july 1893 at 16 wilson grove. She was 28 years old. Her husband william monaghan is listed as mate, merchant service.

I can't find an appropriate marriage. I assume your Mary is the one indicated on the census as born in Leeswood, Flintshire

Do you have a birth cert. of one the children confirming her maiden name is JONES?

There is a marriage in Liverpool of a Jane Jones to a John Griffith in 1885. Possibly a connection.

But as Ladyhawk says, do you have proof of Mary Ellen's maiden name from a child's birth certificate?
