Hello ,I have found on the electoral rolls a relation of mine living at 5 The Parade from 1933-1939 in Coulsdon , it comes under Brighton Rd . I can't seem to find the address now and wondered if anyone knew where The Parade was ?
Any suggestions welcome , thanks .
Regards
Alan

I would imagine it was the Parade of shops in the centre.
Go google maps and get Coulsdon up. You will see the Brighton Road now bypasses the town, but when you zoom in, there is a part of the Brighton Road that does still go through the centre. If you get the little man to walk down that bit, it is indeed a "parade" of shops!

I think you will find that The Parade is actually in what is now known as Old Coulsdon, and not in the Brighton Road. In the first half of the 20th century the original village of Coulsdon was renamed Old Coulsdon to distinguish it from the town that had grown along the Brighton Road in the valley a few miles away that had been called Smitham but had been renamed Coulsdon. The only 'Parade' and named as such, as opposed to a parade of shops, is in the Coulsdon Road near Bradmore Green. The shops are still called The Parade and number 5 is now Danny's Fish & Chip shop. The post code is CR5 1EH if you want to look at it on Google Maps.

Agree with Lizdb that the address was probably a row of shops or houses, possibly on a more major road. It may not even be marked on a map.
Have a scroll around here and see if it reveals anything:

Looking in the phone books:
1938
Thomas, Alfred A, 5 The Parade, Coulsdon Road, Old Coulsdon
1939
Jennings H T, Ironmonger, 5 The Parade, Coulsdon Road, Old Coulsdon

In the 1939 Register, the occupants are shown as Harold and Marjorie Turner. He was a Managing Clerk, Hardware and Domestic Stores, so the flat over the shop was obviously for the manager's use.

Thanks both , I have my relative Reginald Thomas Prout , his wife Ann and daughter Diane living at 5 The Parade ,Coulsdon? I think I got it off Ancestry's new releases on Surrey , he is supposedly there from 1933-1939 before moving to Chaldon .
