Hi,

It seems to me that there's only part of the information there Karen.   I think it may be part of one of the Australian based free to search online indexes from perhaps the National Archives of Australia.

http://www.naa.gov.au/index.aspx

Not all their holdings have been digitised, but many of their holdings have at least been indexed.   Not all holdings are on open access.  They have archival storage facilities in most capital cities.

barcode would be the electronic data identifier and its number would be 4097252.
location Hobart would indicate that the file/folder is in storage at Hobart, the capital city for Tasmania, one of the states in Australia

The barcode 4097252 refers to an ITEM held on OPEN ACCESS at Hobart. The decision re open access is dated 10 February 2005.   The Records authority class number is 1002652 and the date registered is 21 July 2003.   The Item refers to a named individual on a BA flight from London to Melbourne in 1965.   I note you have a surname in this topic's heading.   :)

You can find it via the link to the NAA that I provided earlier.   I have no way of knowing if the named individual is a living person, and so I have not named the person.

Thank you for your PM, Karen.

I understand now that you already knew the info/explanation I have posted, and that you cannot confirm if the person named is no longer living.

I am perplexed as to why you would post an obscure question at RChat, but I can share the following thread about "How to" as perhaps it will help explain that RChat is not about searching for living people, and unless we know the person is deceased, there's little we can do to assist.

http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=368728.0

Here's a snippet.

Here on RootsChat we are very concerned that the privacy and security of the living is protected. For this reason we do not allow searches for living persons. Although we fully understand you would like recent information to add to your tree, or that you may wish to make contact with birth families, relatives you lost contact with when they immigrated to Australia, missing family or friends, we are afraid we are unable to assist you.

We are very sorry for the inconvenience this causes you but we are sure you will appreciate the reasons for this.

As the item is on open access, you could of course purchase a copy of that item from the NAA.  I would guess it would be about $75 Au.

Series P8 are migrant selection documents.

From the NAA.....

Function and purpose

This is a series of personal documentation presented by British migrants intending to migrate to Tasmania, Australia from the period 1959 to 1973. The migrants arrived by air or sea. The migrant's applications are for passage under the ex-Service mens free passage scheme (which assisted the oversea settlement of ex-Service people or ex-Service men's widows), and the (10 Pound Pom) United Kingdom assisted passage scheme.

As well as general correspondence and personal identity and qualification documents, all items contain at least one of the following forms:

1) A single sheet of paper from the Chief Migration Officer including details of the passage booking, and the names of those traveling.

2) A letter from the Chief Migration Officer to the Agent General for Tasmania (London) including confirmation that the passage has been approved and details of the passage booking.

3) An application for assisted passage to Australia under the United Kingdom and Australian Government Agreement (Commonwealth of Australia, Department of Immigration) form. This form is light blue and either two or four pages.

4) A one page, two-sided form letter (marked P.2a) from the Chief Migration Officer of the Department of Immigration, to the applicant advising of their successful application to travel under the Assisted Passage Migration Scheme.

5) A one page yellow or white form letter from the Chief Migration Officer of the Department of Immigration, Australia House, London, to a Radiologist requesting that the applicant (one form for each family member migrating) be chest x-ray examined. If on file, this form letter will have been filled out by the Radiologist and returned to the Department.

6) Medical Examination (Commonwealth of Australia, Department of Immigration, Australia House, London) form. The form includes a declaration completed by the applicant and results of the medical examination completed by the examining doctor. Each applicant completed this one page, two-sided pink form.

7) Commonwealth of Australia Department of Immigration Nomination form. This single sided white form was completed by a representative in the UK from an Australian business or individual that was nominating the migrant.
