Cupcakey, Have you overlooked the information researched for you here in June last year :

TITTERINGTON Miss A  28 years  Linen keeper, embarked on the ORAMA from London on 27 Mar 1925.  Contracted to land in Sydney.  Last address in the UK  48 Lord Street Southport  Country of last permanent residence England.  Country of intended permanent residence Australia.

I cannot find a marriage to a John RICHMOND between 1925 and 1927.  Perhaps they weren’t married and legally she was a spinster at the 1933 marriage.

There is an online tree  on Ancestry with a photo of Annie and her dau.   Is it your tree cupcake?

Cando

ADD

Mr J Steele ticketted to Melbourne, and Miss A Titterington ticketed to Sydney.  err....  about 900 kms between those two capital cities.    Huge assumption to match passenger Mr J Steele with Cupcake's Aunt.
:) ticket numbers show NO connection,
 :) destinations show NO connection,
and
:) there's 29 pages of passenger names on that voyage; 241 first class, 904 third class including 175 aliens.

http://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/31289510 8 April 1925 The West Australian.

Contract Ticket Number A4073

Mr J STEELE
34, Beach Lane,
Musselburgh N.B.
Mine Pumper, 29 years of age, Scottish
3rd class ticket to MELBOURNE,  In Melbourne to Norman Thomas, Wanburra, Victoria.

Contract Ticket Number A4420

Miss A TITTERINGTON
48, Lord St,
Southport.
Linen Keeper, 28, English
3rd class ticket to SYDNEY.   In Sydney, to the Immigration Bureau

I wasn’t assuming anything – was just curious to see if there was a Jack James  on the Orama at the time Annie was, and might have been the Jack I have been looking for. I hadn’t seen the contract numbers until now.

My apologies for wasting everyone’s time.

Cupcake, if you were to read JMs comment carefully, you would see that she could not be implying that it was you who had made the assumption: 'Huge assumption to match passenger Mr J Steele with Cupcake's Aunt.'

It was in fact assumed by Maggsie, as evidenced by her, 'Got him'.

It could be John, but with just a 'J' no knowing. He could have met her on the ship and decided to persue her to Sydney. Now wouldn't that be romantic. Your task now is to try to find out who he was and from where he came. Good luck with that task.

Hi,
Got him.
I will have to Private message my email address.
I will then send them on.

Yes, Jamjar is spot on,   I was not implying that Cupcake was making the assumption.

May I mention that there is a submitted tree on a commercial website.   Jacqueline's birthdate is shown there as 4 May 1926.   If that is correct, then WHERE WAS ANNIE in August 1925?

I did wonder if Jack and Annie had met on the ship and arranged to meet at some point. So, I have spent most of the morning on Scotland’s People – looking for his birth details 1896/1900 – to no avail. So either, his birth wasn’t registered or, he wasn’t born in Scotland. There were a few John’s but not from the area mentioned on the contract ticket.

The reason I stick with Jack is simply because their daughter was named Jacqueline James.  Jacqueline’s birth certificate would have given me answers. Unfortunately I will need written permission from the next of kin in order to apply, there is no chance that is going to happen.

Yes, I’ll need a lot of luck with this task.

From my living family members .... back in the 1920s and 1930s if a woman in NSW was listed in the Sands Street Directories with her title as "Mrs" and then her OWN given name, followed by a surname, the use of her own given name shows she was NOT living with her husband.   She MAY BE a widow or a Divorcee or have been in a common law marriage, and using the title "Mrs" to explain why she was accompanied by and caring for her child/children.

With that in mind,  I offer the following :

http://cdn.cityofsydney.nsw.gov.au/learn/history/archives/sands/1925-1929/1928-part7.pdf   (see page 3 of 61)

Sands Sydney Directory 1928  (closing date for entries would likely be end of October 1927)
PADDINGTON
Windsor Street, North Side Off 150 Jersey road to Cascade Street

184   STEELE   Mrs Annie

Point Piper lane…..

So, that’s listing a Mrs Annie STEELE at 184 Windsor Street Paddington in late 1927.

(Paddington as in a suburb of Sydney NSW)

Yes, I realise Jamjar was correct.

Yes, Jacqueline was born 4 May 1926. I have no idea where Annie was in August 1925, four months after arriving in Sydney.

On Jacqueline marriage cert it gives her place of birth  Coogee.

So, I contacted State Library of New South Wales to look for Annie and Jack. They searched through the 1926 NSW Electoral Rolls for Coogee for these two names without success.

Some entries from Sands 1925

Mrs Annie STEEL, 31 Renwick St, Alexandria
Mrs Annie E STEEL,  21 Victoria St, Rozelle
Mrs A STEELE, 16 Milner Cres, Wollstonecraft

I am sure I have previously checked for any sightings of a Jack STEEL or Jack STEELE.

ADD,  I have just checked,  NO listings in Sands 1925 for TITTERINGTON .....  ::)
