Hi,

welcome here! The first question in Germany is: What's the confession?

Königsberg in Preußen

* Roman-Catholic
* French-reformed
* Lutheran, but Polish or Lithuanian
* Mennonite?
There are four churches.

* Lutheran? There are about twelve churches.

No civil registration until 1874.

If she/he has an Austrian name, he might have been a refugee from the Salzburg area ...

Did you check familysearch?

Regards
Rudolf

Hi Rudolf
Thanks for the response. I was told that records from 1740 for Konigsberg, Ostpreussen may best be found in one of the following:
Archives in Stettin, Poland
Church archives in Kaliningrad, Russia
Kirchenbuchstelle, Berlin (Dahlem)

Unfortunately, my research has to date not provided and answer although I thought that Kaliningrad, Russia was the most likely. Any suggestions appreciated.
