1851 Dublin Census query
« on: Sunday 25 September 16 16:51 BST (UK) »
Hi,

I hope someone can help me - I wonder if anyone had access to the 1851 Dublin census which will show the heads of households in the Dublin area?  I'm looking for Edward Dillon born I estimate in 1788 (supposing that he was 21 when he married in 1809).

Edward was a Brazier (occupation taken from his son Peter's marriage in 1854).  I know from this marriage certificate that Edward was deceased in 1854.

I'm going round in circles with my Irish research and even though I've tried 'thinking outside the box' whilst looking into my Irish ancestors I've gone only millimetres.

Many thanks,

Loulou330

Unless someone aged 70+ applied for a Pension in early 1900's...

http://censussearchforms.nationalarchives.ie/search/cs/home.jsp

you can then get what was on 1851 Census which has since been destroyed

Using the advanced search on Glasnevin Trust using 1854 as a ten year search yields the following

Edward Dillon 1844 age 46
and  1850  aged 70 this could be your man ? he is buried in an extended grave meaning others buried with him.
you will see details of how to apply for a read out of the grave on right hand side

Hi

Thank you very much for this information - its the first real lead I've had in regards to Edward.  Although I'm relatively experienced in family history - my Irish ancestors are proving to be very 'challenging' to say the least.

best wishes,

Hi Loulou330,

The Dublin Heads of Household extract from the 1851 census includes 3 men named Edw. Dillon; one at Upper Abbey St. in St Mary’s Parish; one at Willet Place in St Thomas’s Parish; and one at Garden Lane in the parish of St. Nicholas Without.

Not much to go on, but may be of help someday.
