Which Specific Catholic Records Are Available via Roots Ireland
« on: Sunday 25 September 16 03:58 BST (UK) »
Is there any way to tell which specific Catholic records Roots Ireland make available? By this I mean, a list of parishes and dates. To give an example, if I go to rootsireland.ie and look up Wexford, it gives just raw numbers of BDMs available online, nothing that I can see to say which parishes, which dates?

This lack of basic info, and other reasons, has meant that I have never given them them any custom, so it interesting to see them complain recently about the parish records becoming available on competing commercial services.

Thanks, I am familiar with the NLI records. However, I am specifically interested in knowing more about the Roots Ireland records for two reasons:

First, the Roots Ireland records are NOT derived from the NLI microfilms. Roots Ireland had access to the original parish records, and in some cases have indexed records both earlier and later than the NLI records.

Second, Roots Ireland (as far as I can tell), do an awful job of self-promotion. I can't tell which specific records they have available. Which parishes, for what dates!

Annie

I will try that if necessary, but was just wondering if I had missed this information online somewhere. I must also say that when I did try and engage with a predecessor county organisation, they refused to provide any details without payment up-front, which I thought a bit perverse (requiring payment to be even willing to discuss what they might be able to provide!).

Best I can find is via this route:

(Without logging in!)
Select a county from the map at the bottom of the home page (scroll down).

Click on "Online Sources" in the menu bar.

I have attached an image of the first few parishes from Kilkenny:
Garrad (Suffolk, Essex, Somerset), Crocker (Somerset), Vanstone (Devon, Jersey), Sims (Wiltshire), Bridger (Kent)
